It's not what you're thinking, but it got your attention! I have made a rear prop tool, but need the length of the prop shaft in order to cut it to the correct length + a couple of inches. Can anyone put a dimension to the two red lines please? My boat is three hours away.

Just thinking.....not from any experience, but wouldnt that length be approximately the length of the front prop and the flange? |

At work now -- but if I don't seen an answer by tonight or tomorrow morning I will measure it on my outdrive and post it -- my props are off as I have the engine removed repairing a cylinder head. |

I think it's a front prop tool you've made ! The tool I made for mine uses a 8" length of tube (which is actually longer than it needs to be, but it allowed holes to be drilled into it so I can slide a bar through.) A plate/ bolt is welded onto the end so a torque wrench can be used. In hindsight, I should have welded on a 30mm bolt instead of the 19mm one, so the same socket could be used for both the front and rear props. Graham |

My mistake, it is the front. If I make it 9" long, cap the end and weld a 30mm nut on the cap and drill it say 1" from the end for a tommy bar, that way I can use the bar if it's hard to remove and a torque wrench to replace it. Does that sound OK? |

That should be fine; on mine, the 13mm hole centre is drilled about 5/8" or so from the end of the tube, so you should have plenty of clearance with the hole centred 1" from the end of a 9" tube. Graham |

I have the same boat.........my props are off and I can measure the shaft this weekend.......I bought the Volvo DP prop tool last fall--cost only 25.00 online.......save me a fortune in prop removal/install + drive fluid change (175.00 around my neighborhood!) |
