Post subject:  1/2" Hex drive

I have been cleaning up my SX drive this weekend getting it ready to do various service jobs. I need to remove the pivot housing to change the bellows, the manual says use a 1/2" hex drive to remove the pivot bolts, but the bolts don't actually have six flats as such, they appear more of a (Torx type) but not Torx if that makes sense. I'm not saying a hex drive won't fit, but if the bolts are tight there seems a good risk of stripping the head of the bolts. Can anyone put my mind at ease, or offer any advise? Sorry but I don't have any photo's to show what I mean.

PS I have soaked them with "ease it oil" and won't be doing the job for another week.

Oh! and another question coming shortly.

I haven't done that job, but I'd use whatever tool fits the fastener! Sometimes things get changed in production before the manuals get updated.

I've been doing some more homework on this, and someone on another forum I use says it might be this spline tool I need. However the write-up only mentions this as being a Mercruiser tool but it certainly looks like this might do the job (if it's the right size for my V/P SX drive). I will ring them tomorrow. Until then has anyone used one?

1/2" hex is what you need; easy to find in the US, but not so easy ( at a reasonable price!) in the UK. If you can find an old 1/2" Allen key, you could cut it down and fit it in a 1/2" socket.
