I replaced the impellar and used the lubrication and reinstalled with the rubber ring gasket. I have noticed a small, but steady drip of water from the underside of the pump. The lower arrow in the picture is where the water comes from (the upper arrow was pointing to where the front side attaches).

Is the entire pump possibly bad or was my impellar install not done correctly?

Any thoughts on how to fix. The boat runs fine, temperature is normal, and when I open the engine compartment (running and at idle) the drip is consistent. It is like a leaky faucet. Very minor, but i would rather repair.

Any thoughts?

Thanks guys.

Pump is failing. The weep hole is there to let you know it's on it's way out. You can run it that way for awhile, but
will have to replace it eventually. It's not an expensive or hard to do fix.

I have to drive by the parts store. If you happen to know the ball park price, will you post it? I can grab it off my phone.

Thanks for the fast response!

I don't see a pic. I wasn't aware of a weep hole on the raw water pump ( yes, there is one on the recirculation pump). If the raw water pump leaks, it's usually past the bearing/ seal on the backplate; nothing to do with the the O ring. Was the original O ring removed; if not, it will leak !

Here is the picture.

There was a thin black o ring and a packet of lubricant with the new impellar. I undid the two black hoses and the black bracket. 4 screws held it in place. Took it off, pulled out the impellar and re-installed with the lube and O ring.

I just picked up the raw water pump (it is the part from where the belt wraps around to the front where the impellar is housed and has a new impellar inside.

Sorry, I was wrong; there is a weep hole underneath the raw water pump. The shaft seal has failed, it can apparently be changed (the bearing would neeed doing at the same time)

You saying I do not need this part? I opened it later and it has the complete part as shown on my boat from where the belt wraps around forward (area that houses the impellar).

I only remember reading on this or maybe another forum that the seal is replaceable ( but not with a part from Volvo Penta), the bearing being changed at the same time. I've never done it myself. The only problem I could envisage is that if it's been leaking, it may have damaged the shaft. I'd be tempted to fit the new pump especially as you already have it ( and maybe try to repair the old one if possible, to keep as a spare)

That was my plan, install the new one. I think when you mentioned the shaft I got concerned that there may be more to the problem, but I did notice in a picture the the little weep hole and I am going to double check that is where the water is coming from (I am fairly confident it is).

Just wish the new one was red! I like my engine to match.

Red paint is pretty cheap ! Plus, your new pump will probably have bronze spigots; the early ones were plastic and some became loose from the pump housing !

Same thing on my port engine....steady drip, drip, drip. The pump was replaced this past week....waiting for the bill to show up.

Sorry to dredge up this three year old thread, but this is happening to me now.

Any suggestions on where to buy it from? This is obviously a bad week to not have the boat running. Do you guys suggest getting from the VP store?

Also... anything else I'm going to need to do this? This'll be the first time. I do have the Seloc manual for the engine and I know it's got the instructions in there.

I changed the seal on mine last April; thankfully I caught it early enough and the bearing was still OK. It was an easy job, I took the pump off rather than try to do it "in-situ".

The seal is available from Volvo Penta; part# 827247. Even in the UK it was cheap; the equivalent of around seven $US.

There was another thread here that went into detail of how to do it; I can't find it though !

I made the post on how to rebuild the raw water pump, including replacing bearing and seal. I just rebuilt the photo links, so the photos should be OK now.

Thanks for posting that. I'm going to replace the entire pump assembly (I hope, never done it before) but as suggested above I'll keep the old one and can maybe rebuild it as a spare.
