Post subject:  Trim stopped working

Just an FYI for those with trim motor issues. Used the boat a few weeks ago and the trim worked fine. went out last weekend, and no trim, no noise no clicking, nothing. The boat was full down andused 1/4 tank of gas in less than an hour) I reset the 50a breaker (which took me too long to find since it was hiding in plain sight... ) but after few clicks and no trim movement it would throw again. Spent the next several hours checking the switch, chasing wiring etc and then after some research online put power directly to the trim motor to test, but it would not run even with voltage put right to it. After some advice from a guy at Boaters Warehouse here in Mooresville I decided to pull the trim motor myself (super easy, two small bolts that run through the motor down into the pump) and check it out. The bearing inside was definitely bad, I could barely turn it, so it probably was drawing too much power and kicking the breaker. The pump itself turned freely. Volvo wants $400 (yikes!) for a trim motor, but I found an aftermarket motor online (thank you Ebay) from a place called http://www.dbelectrical.com in TN for $119. They say its new and shipped it today. Hopefully when it arrives later in the week I'm back in business.

Update: Installed the new motor without incident and it works Great! It actually moves a lot faster than the old one (maybe because the old bearing was wearing out). The DB Electrical guys shipped it first thing Monday (nice), I received it Thursday and installed it Friday night. It came with all new o-rings and seals so no unwelcome surprises. The only issue was one of the long bolts they sent with it was slightly bent, so I used one of the old ones. The whole thing was $132 landed and took less than 5 minutes to install.

Mine stopped working all at once. It did sound a lot different than the new one so maybe it was gong out before I knew, but one day it was working fine, the next it stopped and threw the breaker. When I took the motor apart, it was obviously a bearing. You could barely turn it even without the magnets. Luckily the pump is fine that's another $4-500.
