I have had my boat up for sale for a few weeks and have had an issue with the engine hours. The meter that was on the boat when I bought it now reads 143hours I have a receipt in the history file that came with the boat showing that the meter was intalled three years after the boat was new. I have no idea why this was (maybe there was never one on). The question is this, is there some code that can be extracted from the engine that can determine the exact total hours used.

YES. An OBD2 or simmilar scanner can get the engines hours read. Most yards will have one they can hook up for you, might cost you a pint of lager, but it's worth it.
