What is the automotive cross reference for a 2000 VP 3.0 SX engine? I want to change the oil this weekend.

you can go to Fram's website and cross-ref the volvo p/n; or the application

If I read this correctly, should be the Fram PH30 for your boat.

Okay whew did my research. It's of course a chevy engine, all chevys take the same filter. Boat, car, whatever.

PH30 = short, PH5 = long. All chevy V8's take the PH30, but some V6/i4 can use the PH5.

PH5:
Diameter: 3.78
Height: 5.17

PH30:
Diameter: 3.78
Height: 4.05

So the best think I can do is just lift the lid and see what I have room for.

Looks like it's the PH5 or whatever you want to cross that to (for me, mobil 1 extended life filter)

Good choice. I pick Fram only because thier website seems the most user-friendly for look-up and cross-reference. Not to mention, I can pick one up at Walmart.

Plus the Fram lookup will give you the cross-reference to a long list of popular brands including Wix, Napa, Mobil, etc. Great lookup tool on their site even if you don't use their stuff.

Now I just gotta find the VP 30w oil. Every local boat shop doesn't carry it. West Marine has a dinosaur 30w :?:

I use Sierra Marine filters from West Marine and Chevron Delo 400 straight weight, I used to use 30 but now use 40 in deference to the engine's age (original 23 year old). Holds good oil pressure 20-30 psi hot at 800 rpm...If you use a good Heavy Duty Diesel rated oil like Chevron Delo or Shell Rotella I'm not convinced that syn oil is necessary....unless under warrantee...
BTW all Chevy engines do not take the same filter, the ones for the small block V-8 and V-6 are different, the 3.0 4 cyl I don't know about.

I concur on the rotella, i totally forgot about using it. It has the zinc for the old school lifters in the 4cly that "car" oils do not have and exceeds any marine specs.

I'll pick me up some 30w Rotella T on the way home along with a filter. New oil yay

If you have a choice of filters and the bigger one fits, then go with that. The tall filters have much more filter surface area and will work better and longer than a short one. Short ones are generally only used where space is tight.

Just for info be Wary of the fram doubleguard filters I put one in my souped up mustang and it overheated the first time I took it out for a spin. Changed the filter to original fram and had no problems. Just a tip to horsepower junkies. 8) Joe in Miami

K&N HP-3002 fits the 3.0 liter perfectly, and it's much bigger then the OEM unit.

I heard that Mallory Marine filters are good too. Only if you use NGK Iridium plugs though.....
