The boat was at the mechanic for the repairs from the little fire (see thread here viewtopic.php?f=3&t=7853 ) and he called to say it was going to be done tomorrow after his water test. However, he did say he sees some leaking from the Manifold and Risers. He said its not bad, but he sees some leaking. The water test will tell him if there are any "misses" which would indicated they are worse. Is this something that I can replace on my own? I am fairly handy and do most of my boat maintenance myself, but not something I have ever done before. He is telling me $1,000 in parts and $300 in labor to to the manifolds and risers. He said letting them go would ruin the engine. My concern is that I have a vacation planned and paid for next week with the boat and is it something I should have him do right now or can I wait till back from vacation. IE do the manifold and risers fail that quickly. Any thoughts and advice appreciated. |

Its pretty straight forward. Should be able to get it done in about 3-4 hours or so. Price for parts also seems a bit high. I'm pretty sure u could do better than that. |

+1 to capn that price seems a little steep. I ordered a couple of items from the dealer and I got totally taken. I called Terry at http://www.winnisquammarine.com/ and I could have saved over three hundred dollars on my items. I am no way affiliated with them or did I purchase anything from them. Felt kind of bad when I found out how much the dealer was overpricing for the items. Not actually the dealer they ordered factory direct. ![]() |

I have ordered from them too. Great guys and couldn't understand why I didn't order from my dealer. My dealer won't call back, it's like I am putting him out looking up parts That being said, I don't have time to do it before we leave for vacation with the boat to the Florida Keys for a week of boating lobstering etc. Am I ok waiting to repair them till I get back or is it a must fix now item? |

Waiting to hear. My guess is he wants the work so he is going to "feel" something on the test. I think he mentioned that if they were failing it would show up in hesitation during a high speed run. I have not had any issues running at high speed. No hesitations or anything. Just hate to spend the $ for something I could do, but my schedule does not give me any time to do it before vacation. Glad the boat is done from the little fire issue as we were worried we would not have it for the vacation which would totally have ruined the week being boat less. Quick Google and found these prices. http://www.ebasicpower.com/pc/BAROMC-1-3857656/VOL8A That would be $710 (not $1,000) for the parts and someone said 3-4 hours so $300 for labor is about their hourly rate. |

I just to make things clear, $1000 for 2 manifolds & 2 risers and all the gaskets?? Yes! To me it's not that bad, the 4 gaskets that are needed for the risers are $40.00 each. |

The 700 bucks he listed included the gaskets needed. |

@Paul - that was what he said. $1,000 in parts for the manifolds and risers and $300 labor to install. I found the Manifolds for 246 and risers for 109. The manifolds come with all the gaskets and bolts. There were a few misc parts but all real cheap. I figured I could get the parts for $700+ |

I think some one else said, it it very stright forward. I would pull the plugs out first, make note of the spark plug wires so you put them back in the right order. You may want to conceder I closed system option since you’re into the rises. No more seawater going though the block. Just a thought? |

Feel what...the way to tell...is to check spark plugs for rust...and pull the riser and check for rust stains in the ex passage..if the are ok you could re assemble with new gaskets...but in salt water I'd say they are due...mine were starting to clog we five seasons..... |

You guys are so lucky with the price of parts; roughly twice that price in the UK. VP USA won't even allow non US residents ( or at least non USA IP addesses) to access their parts website, as the prices are so much lower than for prices outside the USA ! Graham |

@Lou - Should I have him pull out a spark plug when I pick it up and verify? He said there would be "misses" or "hesitations" when running at WOT. Said he took it out and hit 48mph and ran smooth and fast. |

I would check the plugs for rust and remove the riser and look...are those riser original, with all salt water use..... |

I have no idea if they were done or not. I have had the boat 2 years. |
