I have a 94 H190 with 5.0 EFI Volvo. In neutral it revs up to 4500+ rpms...but in drive it won't give me more than 2500...changed spark plugs and has a new high pressure fuel pump. The prop is a stainless steel 14 1/4 x 21. Any help or advise will be appreciated.

Water in your fuel?

To start, lets ask some basic questions. Is the boat over loaded as to wight? Is the boat balanced: do you have something very heavy in the stern? Is the drive all the way down to start & as it is trying to come on plane, are you bring it up a little. If you have trim tabs, if so, just bring them down about 20 to 25%. If they all the way down, they will act as brakes. If they all all the way up, you will not be getting any lift from them.

As to your prop size, I would not know. I would search the internet, dealer or ask other boaters that have the same engine, drive & type of boat.

Check the drive, I don't know if your like me, but the boat never comes out of the water. Other then, opening & closing of the season. I once had a 12" 2x4 stuck to my drive. I had to go in the water to pull it off.

My bet is poor fuel supply rather than the fuel itself.

You need to go over your fuel supply from one end to the other = check the non-return valve on your fuel tank to see it's not sticking, also check your fuel pickup is not clogged with crap that E10 loosens up in the tank, change your fuel filter (again E10 loosens all the crud in the tank and will quickly clog this very fine filter), check fuel lines are clear, your pump is done so you can rule that job out, then finally check your carb. What you are looking for are fuel restrictions or blockages.

I'm pretty sure you'll find your problem in this area.

BTW - prop size is fine for this boat - should do around 50mph @4600 rpm.

I agree, probably a fuel supply issue. The engine is EFI though, not carb; it's only the high pressure pump that's been changed, so a problem with the low pressure fuel pump is a possibility as well.

I have a 1997 FW Limited 240 with the 7.4GIDP engine and drive. Last spring I installed a swimplatform from http://www.swimplatform.com and just absolutely love it. Last week my son changed out the high pressure pump (changed the low pressure last spring) because of it bogging down from idle to full power. (He's a mechanic) Went out to one of our lakes yesterday at 4200 foot elevation, the boat had a full tank of gasoline (65 gallons), two male adults and my 4 year old grandson. This was around 500 lbs. Boat acted like it was new. We hit 50 mph (gps and guage) with the trim only partially used. The water was a little rough to trim any farther out. But we were sure happy with 50. Boat hasn't done that well at higher elevation for years. Running a F-6 prop set, about 4500 rpms. And I use Marine sta-bil (Blue) in the gas to help keep the ethonal gas under control. We love the boat.
