I just bought a 2002 with a 4.3 Mercruiser with fuel injection. Have put 30 hours on it with no problems. Running today about 2 hours and engine died. I restarted and it ran for few minutes and died again. Repeat, repeat. Got tow home. Put boat on trailer and tried to start again two hours later, but now the engine wouldn't start at all. I noticed that the fuel injection pump was not running when put ignition in the ON position as it normally does. I first thought it was bad fuel (i didn't put stabilizer in this tank of gas), but now I think its the fuel pump.
Any ideas?
Trying to get this fixed asap to salvage weekend away (towed boat 7 hours to NJ shore/Barnegat bay)
Thanks

I had that same experience with my Sundowner a few years ago. Not sure of the set up on the Mercs but on my Volvo it was the low pressure fuel pump that was bad. If you want to confirm take the fuel line off the outlet of the pump and point it in a bucket and turn the ignition on and see if any fuel comes out, also make sure you have power at the fuel pump

Sounds just like my V-P with a bad low pressure fuel pump like acguy mentioned. Happened the beginning of this season.

I don't know if the Merc has the same fuel setup though.
