Our boat has been giving us some trouble this season and we think the newest problem is the deceleration valve but we cant' replace it as it is obsolete. What do we do now? It has a carburated ford 351 motor with a king cobra outdrive. Any help would be very much appreciated

Just take it off and clean it out. The kuhneutson valve located inside gets gummed up over the years.

I'm just kidding. It's just an emissions piece part of the EGR system to try and cut down on carbons leaving the tail pipe. Really crappy technology that's why it's not even made anymore for replacement. Any older mechanic (not some kid out of school) can easily remove all that junk, block the holes off, and retune the carb so it runs shiny again.

Here are the pictures of the valve. According to my Seloc manual it says "In order to prevent the engine from stalling during high vacuum conditions, a deceleration (gulp) valve is used on all carbureted Ford engines. Air is allowed to flow into the intake manifold, entering the air/fuel mixture so as to lean out the rich condition frequently created by high vacuum when the throttle valves are closed on rapid deceleration. Sudden vacuum acts to draw down the diaphragm in the valve, opening the valve and allowing air to flow through the screen and into the manifold."

Yep, thats it. We researched the part and found it's a GM part made for a smog pump air injection system. We eliminated the part, vacumm tested it, lake tested it and the boat runs beautifully! We just returned from 7 days at Havasu and our boat is BACK :D She made us proud and boy did we have fun.
