When we got to the boat this weekend I noticed a slight sheen on the water around the boat. We went for a late night cruise and when I hit reverse there was a distinct noise like my drive lifting slightly then dropping down. I suspect Leaking trim fluid. Where do I check for the trim fluid level? I looked in the manual but couldn't find it. I checked in the engine bay and it is certainly not where I thought it was. I'm on the boat with the boat manual on an iPad but I don't have the Volvo manual.

Try at the back of the engine bay on the port side. Just have some one hit the trim a little and locate the pump.

YES to the above post. The "bottle" is milk colored and you should see 2 hose and wires going to it.

I don't think so on an '08. Didn't they move it down onto the drive itself? (A ridiculous design decision IMO.)

Yes, from what I am seeing I believe you are correct Mike. That leaves me with the only option to pull the boat to check the problem.

If is is in the drive, there should still be a bottle, yes?? Like the oil for the drive.

Pretty sure Mike is correct. They redesigned the drive. I didn't even think of that last night before I sent you that message.

I think it's on the right hand side of the transom mount as you look at it from the rear, why they put it there, when you can't check the fluid level with it in the water, is one question I'd have for them. Mabye to eliminate the trim pump taking up room in the back of the boat (minimal) or not having to run trim lines through the transom mount?
Who knows what they were thinking of...

Pretty poor design if you ask me. I'm guessing I need to pull the boat anyway. When I hit reverse I can see the drive lift on my trim gauge. Don'T know yet what all that will entail. The problem is my trailer is at home so I'm looking at a couple of trips to even take a look.

I think Volvo up-graded the pump because there were problems with leaks...so it might be worth asking a dealer if you can get yours upgraded, sometimes they good will warrantee things like that....

Yep, the trim/tilt motor is mounted on the transom assembly(right hand side). There is a little white plug on the right hand side where you will find the trim fluid leaking. It will leak really bad if you run to full up or full down. Make sure that when you pull the boat the drive is up. With that much fluid leaking you may not be able to get the lower unit up and you do not want to burn out the motor. I had to get a ratchet strap and manually raise the drive so that I could get the boat out of the water and not damage the skeg. Only option is to get it out of the water and get it repaired. Suppossedly now there is a kit to repair this from Volvo Penta, but my dealers is having a tough time getting the kit right now and I have been waiting patiently for about 2 1/2 weeks. I wish you the best of luck with getting this corrected.

Bad news and GOOD News on the trim. Yes my trim pump is apparently toast and a new one is something in the area of $854 or some ungodly number like that. In talking to the dealer I thought to ask "hey what about that Volvo extended warranty that supposedly came with the boat"? He said let me check and I'll call you back. Well he just called and said I have to pay my $25 deductible and pay for the trim fluid. Yeah I can handle that. :lol: Makes pulling the boat a little less painful! I have a Volvo warranty that is good until the end of 2014. They do have a kit to repair the old one but I'm opting for the entire pump replacement. Veitengk I don't know why it's taking so long for yours. My dealer told me he would have mine on hand in 72 hours.
