On the larger (about 25' and up) boats, they are common and can be helpful to level the boat and even help it get on plane when it's loaded heavy. A boat of your size having tabs would be a waste.

For the most part, I agree with The Dallas Guy. If a 16' boat "needs" tabs, something else is wrong, such as; overloaded, over-propped, under-powered, etc.

I generally agree that they should not be required on a 16 foot boat.

I have them on my 240 and they are very helpful when in the Ocean or when trimming for an off center load.

However --- put six or eight people in your 16 foot boat and you might find them very useful (assuming your capacity plate allows that many people)

8 people on a 16 foot boat ????? ; Very useful, or very dangerous if all 8 people decide to be on one side of the boat all at once ! From memory, the plate on our 245 Sundowner indicates a max of 8 people, that may just be an EU thing though as "Elf and Safety" regulations have reached new heights of stupidity here.

Boats have been around for over 6000 years. Your hull is not out dated.

"Outdated" is in the eye of the beholder. I mean, just look at me.

Well I just rode on a boat that didn't have tabs smart last weekend and have them now ,huge difference in hole shot and high speed stability. I'm sold. Technology has far exceeded what boat manufacturers are willing to put into a boat when it comes to keeping a boat in a certain price range.

smart tabs are on my list of things to purchase, have been a while now. A 3.0 in a H180 with 6 ppl in it is horrible to get to plain and you gotta cruise at 3600 just to stay on it and you can practically get the windshield wet when turning it leans so bad.

Smart tabs fix that. I hope to cruise at 2800 when done. Save $$$$$

I hear ya! Between smart tabs and a better prop, I hope to improve the fun factor of my old boat. She still looks good but needs to perform.....

I had smart tabs on my 19 & 21 foot boats. They worked, I got on plane faster and when a bigger boat came by produced a big wake. They acted like shock absorbers, at lest for me they did.
