2008 20 foot frenzy with 5.0 Volvo penta. The past week whenever we put the trim up (at the sand bar or when at the dock) you can see gas or some fluid leak out around the outboard/inboard where the prop is. Engine oil is fine wife thinks it's gas due tonthe rainbow color.

As we just picked this boat I don't imagine it to be normal

Any thoughts? Its not a scary amount but does make a puddle on the top of the water like 10 feet in diameyer

Thanks in advance!

Sean

It's either trim fluid or drive oil... either way not good!

Someone with a VP will chime in shortly on the proper method of checking either level, and locating/repairing the leak.

The silver nut on top of the outdrive is the dipstick.

Gas sinks and goes away, if it stays it's oil.

Hello,

You have one of the leaking trim pumps. The trim pump is integrated into the outdrive(mounted on the transom plate). There is a little white plug where you will see the trim fluid leaking. It will leak a bunch at max up or down. Be careful not to let it run too low or you will not be able to get the drive back up. Contact the dealer where you bought the boat. VP has a replacement cover for the pump that corrects the issue. The new cover requires that the trim lines be replaced. Good luck, this happened earlier in the summer to me and took some time to get the part, but all is well at this point.
