Post subject:  Recommended Prop for 2005 Horizon 210 w/5.0MFI???

Well, I'm new around here but I've been reading a lot on this forum......enough to realize that it's Friday so it must be time for another "what prop should I get for my boat" thread. :D :D

I just purchased a 2005 Horizon 210 with a 5.0L MFI (Alpha drive). The AL prop that came with the boat needs to be replaced so I'm thinking about stepping up to a SS prop for my primary prop and having the AL one reworked for an emergency backup. According to the FW specs, the recommended prop size for my configuration is a 14.5 x 19. I'm more concerned with getting a good hole shot than I am with increasing my top speed; however, I do want to be able to maintain a respectable top speed. We will be using the boat primarily for pulling my kids (aged 9 and 11) and their friends on tubes, kneeboards, skiis and wakeboards. After reading a lot of threads on the topic of props, I've become interested in a Revolution 4 which is available in 14 5/8 and 15, 17, 19, 21, 23, or 25 pitch. I'm thinking about the 19 pitch for no other reason that that is what I have now. My thinking is that the 4 blades and SS would give me the better hole shot I am looking for. What do you guys think and what pitch would you recommend? If you have any suggestions instead of the Revolution 4, I would love to hear them. The SS props I've looked at are quite expensive so I really want to do this once.....I don't want to end up with a collection of props in my garage.

Thanks in advance for your advice and suggestions.

More info will probably get you more help. ( not necessarily from me: )
How does it run now ? WOT RPM's and speed wise.
A 4-blade stainless makes sense to me. It will plane at slower speeds and handle better.
Hopefully someone with the same boat will jump in.
I've heard some prop shops will let you test them with some kind of deposit.
Doesn't hurt to ask.

I can't really tell how it runs now....the prop on it (AL 14.5 x 19) is damaged (used for a water test but still damaged and needing replacing) and the weather here is now too cold for us to really take the boat out and test it using skiiers, tubers, wakeboarders, etc. I need to buy a new prop for next season so I was wondering which one I should get.

If it were me, I would put a new aluminum 14.5 x 19 on it in the spring and get used to the boat. You may find that is all you need. At the very least it will give you a proper baseline to work from.

(this advice from the guy with 3 stainless props) :D

I have the same size motor although I have a VP drive... and my boat is only somewhat larger than yours. I orginally started with a 14x19 aluminum prop but I sometimes had trouble getting on plane when pulling folks with a lot of passengers. I did add a hydrofoil, but going to a 14x17 4 bladed ss prop helped more than anything else. I no longer have difficulty getting on plane, even when pulling at max capacity... I can plane at slower speeds which is good for kneeboards and such... and I can still get up to 45+ mph if I need too.

I know mine isn't a 210 - I have a 2005 H190 with the Volvo 5.0 GXi (270HP). I also had a 3 blade AL prop and the dealer recommended I put on a 21P Hi5 (5 blade SS). It was OK and ran it that way for a few years then traded with someone on Kijiji for a 19P and it is much better. The 19P gets me up to 5000 rpm WOT and the boat feels like it is on rails in a turn. The spare Al prop that I have is crap compared to the Hi5.
Other posters are right though - you may be able to 'test drive' the prop if you're dealing with a reputable dealer. I wanted hole shot because I slalom ski and need the pull. It is not a nice ski boat as the wake is too big but you use what you have. I also added Perfect Pass and that is a great addition. You you want to get into wakeboarding or skiing you should consider this. It is easy to install - especially the new Star Gazer unit which doesn't need a hole cut in the hull for the speedo.
