Post subject:  Idle speed
Have a 2012 h200ss with only 6hrs on her. I'm finding when trying to Dock and the throttle is just clicked in to gear the boat is moving way to fast. There is also a good cLunk when a place it into gear indicating that the idle s too high of course I forgot to look and see what the idle rpms are. I'm guessing there is no way to adjust this and I would have to get the dealer to this?

It was suggested to me that the idle was ramped up for break in and may be turned down at the 10 hr service?

Should be just a screw on the carby somewhere half a turn anti clockwise should fix it

When we had our H200 with a 5.0gxi, I too noticed a clunk when going into drive but it felt normal. What exactly are your idle RPMs? I do not believe that the idle is somehow set higher for break in.

A 2012 boat is most likely an EFI engine, so no carb adjust there. Is your engine/drive Mercruiser or Volvo (BIII , DP drive or Alpha, SX drive)? The "clunk" can be answered easily once we know that.

The suggestion that the idle was ramped up for break-in is highly unlikely. They are all factory set for 600RPM to 800RPM, depending on engine/drive combination. Our 2011 boat with 4.5 hours on it idles at 650 RPM, which is normal.

It's the volvo 5.7 with an alpha. I was having such a rough time docking the boat I forgot to look at the rpm's and yes it is Efi. If I had to guess I'd say when you click it in to gear its

It can't be a Volvo 5.7L with a Mercruiser Alpha 1 drive, No mixey, no matchey. If it is truly a Volvo engine, then it has the SX drive (single prop) or DP (dual prop) If it has a dual prop, because of their nature, they do move along at idle a bit faster than a single prop drive.

Do you think you are really going 5-7 mph? seems high at idle. I know its completely differnt than a cruiser, but when I am docking or in any tight or close quarters, I have to bump from neutral to foward or reverse to have control of the boat, even 2-3 mph is to fast to dock when you dont have any brakes. :lol:

Yes it is the sx drive I think it's idling to high that's why it's clunking
Into gear. I've docked lots of boats and never had One go so fast at idle speed. I will check the rpm and bring my gps next weekend and if it is high I'll call the dealership. It just seems
To fast and we all know you can't steer in neutral and I don't want to scratch the boat

Volvo engines have a "clunk" to them when put into gear. My engine idles at about 650 rpms and it left in gear I am also going WAY to fast to dock. Need to learn how to bump it in and out of gear to control your speed. Takes practice. I have never owned a boat, on my 5th now, that I could keep it in gear and dock.

Sounds like my H200 when we had it. It did move quicker at idle than I needed it to do. You will have to master the in/out of gear when docking...its pretty simple though.

Even my 180 with the 3.0 moves way to fast to keep it in gear at idle when approaching a dock. I come to nearly a complete stop out of gear well before the dock, then use quick shots in, then back out of gear to creep into the dock. Much more control, and much easier to save it if things aren't going to your liking.
