Belt on the alternator just broke, it is labeld 3853713. Measures 39.37 inches ( metric ). Put on a 40" belt, squeeled for a bit, then quieted down although did have to fully extend alternator to get it fairly tight. Seems tighter after running, but did not go hard, nor did I go for very long.

Problem is my boat is a 94, and from what I can figure some engine / drive parts are 93. For example, 93 specs show a 40" belt, while 94 shows the smaller 39.37. Bought a backup prop and had to go to the 15 spline as opposed to the later 94 model 19 spline.

If the 40" does not squeel can I keep it on ? Have a feeling parts for this 93/94 are going to always be a question.

If it fits the groove and you can get it tight to spec (about 3/8" deflection when you press on it) I say run it. Hell, if its an auto belt just pickup a spare for $3 just in case

belt is belt. if it's too long get a shorter one. There's no such thing as a marine accessory belt. I suggest you get goodyear gatorback belts, they are the good stuff.
