I decided tonight that it might be nice to take the boat for a ride this weekend so I figured I better make sure it would run. I dug out the muffs and hooked up the hose. She fired right up so I left it run for a bit to clear out the dust bunnies. I ran the drive up and down a couple times to make sure everything was working properly. I then put my boy at the controls and had him run the drive all the way down while I watched a little closer. All of the sudden I spot a little water leak on what looks like a heater hose up in the top of the drive. I'm guessing it is the output from the impeller. It is just a little pinhole type leak that has a little squirt to it.

There is no way I have time to pull the drive to fix it before the weekend is here. Any chance I could risk it or should I just keep the hull dry? :(

Personally I would recommend fixing it, any leak is a bad leak. A small pin hole could turn into a larger hole very quickly and leave you stranded. However, if you were to try to run any boat with a leak in the inlet hose that would be the one because the pump is not sucking through that hose it is pushing through that hose.

I am confused by the OP's description. The TOP bellow is for the driveshaft and for the life of me I cannot think of a way water could be getting in there to leak out while running on muffs. Also, the impeller output is the exhaust bellows - through which water SHOULD flow - how else is all that water that gets sucked in by the impeller going to escape the system? The path of water is muffs - thermostat housing (if thermostat is open it will circulate through the block) - water jackets (the space that surrounds the exhaust and is part of the manifolds/risers) - exhaust bellow - exit boat.

To the OP - do you have a picture of where the leak is????

He said the ""heater hose" looking thing, which is the water inlet hose from the drive to the transom. And on his the sea water pump is on the outdrive.

After reading your previous reply it got me to thinking that hose is under pressure from the impeller so I will not risk it. Maybe I will call my nephew for a hand. He just had the drive off his Liberator 2 weeks ago so it will still be fresh in his memory. I'm guessing the hose is only gonna be less than $10.

OK finally getting around to this repair. Anyone know if I can replace that hose without pulling the drive off the boat? Looks like a lot of work for a hose. :(

Probably not, its hard enough to get the hose on with everything off and out of the way. Usually need the bellows and everything out of your way.

I was afraid of that. Upon closer inspection it looks like the bellows is getting some cracks down deep in the folds. Any idea for a sorce of parts on the cheap?
