Post subject: | Loss of RPMs |
On our last outing with our Vista 268, with the throttle pushed all the way forward, the engine would only go to about 3200 RPM. In the past, I have had it up as high as 4000 without even being at full throttle. The boat otherwise performs fine in every other way. I suspect that the throttle cable may need adjustment. Does anyone know how difficult it is to adjust this cable and where to find instructions for doing so? Thanks. |

Well, you should be able to check this by observing the throttle at the engine. With the boat off, ensure that the throttle is all the way retarded, note the position at the engine, then advance the throttle all the way forward and again note the position at the engine. See if you can manually advance the throttle beyond the full throttle position at the engine. If it appears to be fully advanced, then your issue is not with the throttle cable. |

FYI - Problem has been solved. It was the fact that the bottom had about 3 inches of growth. Diver took it off and it runs great. |

I also have noticed a loss of RPM's on my 210 Horizon, with VP 5.0 GXI. When the boat was new I could get to 5000 rpms WOT with a 21 Alum prop. I put a 19 SS on it and that would allow it to go over my 5000 rpm if I let it. I always kept it under the limit. Now after it has sat for a few months it will get to 4500-4600 WOT with the same props. I trailer the boat so there is no bottom growth. I now have 54hrs and at 42 hrs I changed the oil to a full synthetic (Royal Purple). Anybody know why the loss? |

I'd check the plug wires, maybe you're not firing on all 8 cylinders. |
