Post subject:  Standard Prop Question

Hey guys! first post here. i've been hanging out in the background for a bit.

I'm currently running a 99 Horizon 180 with a Johnson 150 Ocean-Pro Outboard (not alot of these on the forum from what i can see)

Engine runs like a top, and the 2 month old boat (to me) is fantastic for my backwater runs to the local islands for some fun in the sun.

Currently I have a Quicksilver 4 blade 14.5 inch diameter 18 pitch prop on the engine. And although i am happy with the top end. I would actually have to say that the Hole-Shot is almost too extreme. It pushes the light bow of the little boat way out of the water, to the point where i can't see until it planes out. This seems dangerous to me, and the lady always looses something when i gun it. So i'm actually looking to prop down a bit. Right now the engine runs about 5300 RPM at WOT. and the boat gets up to about 45 on the spedo.

Recomendations?

I would try a 17pitch 3 blade for that motor/boat combo.
my last sundowner I tried every pitch and 3/4 blade combo to get the best all round result. so put it this way the guy who bought it got at least 5 extra almost new props with the boat.

see if any local prop shops do loaner props to try out before purchase.
