Post subject:  Transom Seal Kit Augh!!! will it never stop

Ok, I ordered the transom seal kit Mallory 9-72931. I got this number by searching for OME #3854270 which is no longer available. I came up with a Sierra #18-2772 and I looked this up in iBoats and it pulls up two items. One Sierra and other Mallory. The Mallory was cheaper by about $20. Pulled the outdrive off today to change out the bellows and etc. A friend was there and pulled out the exhaust bellows to put it on and he said hey look at this. The bellows have a flat side on them with holes in the bellows. The one I pulled off doesn't have this. So I looked it up on iBoats and now looking at the Mallory on line shows those same flat spot and holes. The pic about for Sierra appears not to have this. So now need to return it and get what I need.

Does anybody know the correct part number for a 1995 Cobra SX drive? I want the seal kit to replace everything. Should be 2 bellows, 2 hose clamps, "o-ring" seals and gimble bearing.

I have not been in the water yet this years. I reserved my slip this year in February, made appointment for botton paint in March, ordered original parts thought I needed in April. Slip is still resereved, called the paint shop at near end of April because they told me around 30 April. I was told they were running 2 weeks behind. They told me when next was available and I said put me down then. I called just before taking it in and was told, didn't know you wanted it then come in next week. Confirmed before brining it in and they said ok. Told me for Sunday, took it in and nobody was there. The owner just happened to show up. The manager said he lived there at the marina and Sunday was ok. Well owner asked when I was told it would be done by, I said before Memorial Day, he said nope. I got it a week after Memorial Day. It was when I brought the boat home I noticed I needed to replace both bellows. So my extended swim platform finally came in when the boat was getting painted. When the boat came back went to install the platform that next weekend and had problems. Took about 2 weeks to get that setteled, in the mean time I still havent received the trim/tilt pump seal kit in yet. I had to send the one back when it came in because it had been opened and out of 20 orings there were only 3. Now the seal kit is back ordered. Now this problem with the transom kit. Augh!!! will it never end? In what life did I do something wrong and whos corn flakes did I pee on?

Help on the correct transom seal kit would be great if you know the correct number.

There was a picture on this site somewhere, but the small holes on the exhaust bellow go on the underside when installing. I will try and find the post a little later today unless someone else beats me to it.

look here for the original OMC part #s...you can get these from an Evinrude dealer if there is one local to you, for a driveshaft bellows I'd go OE if you can, there is some difference in quality. I have used the Sierra gaskets on my old Cobra for the pivot housing, the water tube etc and they have been fine. But something as important as the driveshaft bellows, try to find the OE part.

Ok I know the engineer that thought this one up doesn't visit here but gotta ask anyways. So if there are now drain holes in the bellow, why even have it. What purpose does the bellow serve now? Let me guess the engineer who came up with this one has only ever played with a toy boat in the tub when he was 5.
