To continue the original thread about the noise from the rear..... viewtopic.php?f=11&t=9704 The mechanic took off the lower unit and the bearing and u-joints seemed ok. There was gear oil in the bellow and around the G bearing. I'm not sure what this indicates, but it doesn't sound cheap. Any ideas? Gasket, clamp??? |

The oil in the bellows is from a leaking driveshaft seal. When you have water in the bellows it rusts the driveshaft where the seal rides so it leaks. |

Thanks Lou. Any idea how this relates to the noise that was coming from the lower unit? They said that the G bearing seemed ok. I want to make sure a simple thing doesn;t get quoted at $5K!
