To continue the original thread about the noise from the rear.....

The mechanic took off the lower unit and the bearing and u-joints seemed ok. There was gear oil in the bellow and around the G bearing. I'm not sure what this indicates, but it doesn't sound cheap.

Any ideas? Gasket, clamp???

The oil in the bellows is from a leaking driveshaft seal. When you have water in the bellows it rusts the driveshaft where the seal rides so it leaks.

Thanks Lou. Any idea how this relates to the noise that was coming from the lower unit? They said that the G bearing seemed ok. I want to make sure a simple thing doesn;t get quoted at $5K!
