Post subject:  Intermittent throttle response

I have a 2001 5.7 gsi dp.

Problem - After idle, I can only increase RPMs in increments of 1000 until I achieve full throttle.

How I achieve full throttle is by starting and stopping and at each start and stop, it increases RPM by approximately 1000.
Once I have achieved full throttle, it runs fine until I go back to idle in no wake zones.

It sat for 2 1/2 years. The fuel was treated. I flushed fuel, replaced fuel filters twice, have run approximately 5 fuel tanks through the system. It seemed to be getting better and now worse.

Any help of suggestions greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the feedback - found out today that the high pressure fuel pump failing when we put load on it.
It dropped down to 5 psi - should be at 30 and is making lots of noise.
