Fling start up

I feel like an idiot.

I bought a 93fling last year.
The boat is immaculate.

She ran like a top the first and last time we ever took it out.

Had it winterized at the end of last season.
Tried to start it.
Now won't start.

The starter will turn the flywheel 3/4's of a rotation then......
the flywheel gets very hard to turn.
I can feel air pressure building when I turn it by hand. ( it will turn)
Then air releasing under pressure as it goes thru the last 1/4 rotation.

Not sure what to do.
I'm sure it's something stupid that I'm unaware of.

Any ideas anyone?
Like to take this beauty out before the season ends.

Cylinder full of water maybe?? Pull the spark plugs and see if it turns over then... watch for any water spurting out of the spark plug holes.

I'd do what Alec said, pull the plugs, ground the coil lead and crank it over briefly and watch for water coming out of the spark plug holes, if it's been sitting in there since the winter though it still may not turn (rusted cylinders). If that's your problem, then the only thing you can do yourself is to spray PB Blaster or Kroil (both rust dissolvers) in the cylinders and let it sit for several days. Then try to turn the engine by hand by using a wrench or a socket on the alternator pulley nut. You do not want to break the bolt that holds the crank pulley on the crank so be careful. Thats why I suggest using the alt pulley nut instead. If have a lot of strength in your hands, you can put on thick fireplace gloves to protect your fingers and pull the engine over by grabbing the drive belts. You just want to break it free by hand to avoid breaking piston rings. I can pull my 4.3 over by hand using gloves and being careful (I do this to get the dist cam set right to adjust points, easier than using a remote starter switch).

The other thing that can cause a no crank locked up engine is a locked up outdrive. You can try removing the drive and then try to crank it.

BTW what engine package does this boat have? OMC, Volvo or Merc?

It's stopping at the compression stroke, that's normal operation. I still bet dead battery. It's just a 2 stroke outboard engine mated to a jet drive not much can go wrong.

new battery, then pull plugs and see if it cranks free.

if its not in the engine then a bearing could be tight in the pump/jet drive unit

You're right ric ....2 stroke OMC motor.

I've got two batteries.
Both seem to be fully charged.

If I hold the key in the start position,
the starter turns the flywheel til it gets to the compression stroke,
then it stops and the starter starts to smoke.

I'm wondering if the motor doesn't need h20 flowing thru it to start up.
Everything was drained and fogged at the end of last season.
I hook the hose up to the flush port but I'm reluctant to run the water without the motor running.

Sounds like air escaping thru a stuck valve when I turn it by hand.

There's no valves. When it slowly turns over that's blowby. Normal. If the starter smokes, it's bad. There's nothing to break in a 2-stroke engine. 3 moving parts.
