Mike - did you double wrap one of your bunks for some reason? In you picture I appears you only did that to one of them. Ben

No, I think that's an illusion. I've done nothing to my bunks except tighten them down - which yours likely needs too.

One of my gripes with this trailer is that the bunks ought to extend further back 1-2". I'm really at a loss to explain why FW made them so short on the rear. If you don't really get the boat up tight on those bow rollers, your transom will be unsupported. I may replace all my bunks in the next 1-2 years to take care of this.

Mine were loose, one of the first things I checked. I agree I think the bunks should be longer and they will be when I replace them. I'm going to give them a good inspection next time I launch. I will also attach the brake line like you did. I already have some of those clamps so it will be an easy fix. Those guides bending really bug me!!!!

Honestly I can't for the life of me understand why they would even offer a painted steel trailer, even in fresh water it's got to be constant maintenance....here in salt you never see them and if you do...they are usually rusted to the point where the are unsafe....even cars use galvanized metal in frames now....a galvanized trailer can last as long as 15 years or longer in salt water...you will have to replace the ubolts but the frame itself will probably require no maintenance....mine is a 94 and still in pretty good shape....Aluminum I have no experience with....but lighter weight can be a plus.....

I've had boats in Florida and California so I know what you mean about the salt water. Painted trailers in fresh water work fine and they look better. Just ask the bass fisherman!!

I agree Lou, the painted trailers (and I include almost all the mfr's, not just FW) are meant to look good when new and help sell the boat. They aren't a terrible trailer IMO, but you'd better get on top of the maintenance and stay there. And then plan to replace it anyway at some point.

I have a 2003 galvanized FW trailer. I am going to swap out the tires and rims. Does anyone know where the jackpoint is on the trailers? Can I do it with the boat on there?

I replaced the lights with LED (Northern Tool $64). Pretty easy job other than having to use a dremel to get under there at the non-stainless bolts that held the old lights. I did notice that every bolt is rusted on there. I do not understand why they would not use stainless? They are not that much more money.

I have a pneumatic bottle jack and use it under where the springs cross the axles. And yes, I have gotten the whole thing off the floor with the boat still on.
