Got the Timbrens installed on Friday and made the first pull with them on Saturday. Holy smokes, what a difference. They mounted up with about 3/4" of clearance with no load, so that's all the truck has to sag before they engage. Once they "land" on the axle, the truck drops very little more. The ride with a loaded trailer was like driving a different truck. Far more stable and secure feeling. Time will tell how they hold up, but for now I recommend them highly. Next weekend I'll find out how they feel with the boat.

Put the trailer on the Suburban today after airbags were inflated to about 20 PSI. Can you tell the difference?

After:

If it didn't do the trick, I'll try about 30 PSI. Don't want to inflate much higher than that for fear of popping these things.

You can see it if you look at the angle of the trailer itself...in the first pic it's a bit nose down in the second it's pretty level...I'd say thats about right...it probably has about 300 lbs of tongue weight, right?
I put in between 20-25 lbs and my boat is probably a little lighter but I know it has about 300 lbs on the tongue.

The guy at the local spring shop has me talked into the Timbrens. He had to order them and they should be here in a couple of days. Supposedly they have about an inch of no engagement when the truck is unloaded, and then once they "land" on the axle their resistance increases quickly. Sounds like what I'm looking for, and the price is right, so we'll see. Thanks everyone!

Timbrens work very well, only down side, they are not customizable. Air bags you can adjust to your liking.
For me, towing boat I fill bags with 20-25 lbs, but when hitched up to 5th wheel 50-55 lbs, and depending on load with car hauler trailer, 10-30 psi.

enjoy

Now that I've made a number of pulls with them, pulling 3 different trailers, I can say I'm in love with them. The only customizing I wanted was to have the help when towing, and have them disengaged when not towing. I guess the great thing about bags is that you can customize them, and the bad thing about them is that you have to customize them. :P I continue to be amazed at what a difference these little things make. (Though, they still cost twice what they should.)

It's good to hear that they work well so that people have choices, that's always a good thing. I think I have the bags on my older Jeep for about 4 years, never a problem....I'm putting them on my 07 Jeep in the summer so we can trailer to new places on Long Island...after pulling with the 4.0 six in the 98...the 5.7 in the 07 is a different world....as is the new style Chrysler 5 speed auto trans...

So what is the verdict Mike? Did you get them installed? Any feedback on the ride impact (loaded and unloaded)? I am going to seriously consider these for my Pathfinder.

I'm 100% sold on them. They accomplish exactly what I wanted - no change to the unloaded ride or handling, but a completely different experience when towing. And zero maintenance. The only downside is the price - they're pretty expensive for what they are IMO. But if I bought a new truck today, the first thing I'd do is get another set installed.

We have the air lift air bags on two of our Jeeps and love them! The ride when towing is pretty amazing and for the price you cant beat them. No bounce what so ever when going over bumps and the Jeeps sit perfectly level.

I'm a little late here, but I put air bags in my Trailblazer at the beginning of this boating season and WOW what a difference in handling towing our Baja 252. They elimanated the sag almost completely and when the trailer hits a good bump the truck handles it just fine. Prior to the bags the truck would get a loose feeling when the trailer started to bounce. And consider I haul a heavy load of fire wood once or twice a year also they came in real handy. For the money you can't beat them. I forget what brand I bought, but only set me back about $80.00.

Mike-Did you get them installed on just the rear or also the front?

These sound like they might be good for my Suburban when I've it got loaded down.

I only put them on the rear. I haven't seen any reason to put them on the front.

Boatfun08 - They worked great on my Suburban. With that long back end, the sag was really magnified, but the airbags inflated to about 25 pounds levels it out nicely.
