Rim size does not impact the sheer "capacity" it does have a huge effect on performance. The only capacity issue I could forsee is if the rims can not handle the load. I can tell you there is a big gear ratio difference between my friends base hemi ram with 17" steelies and deep gears and my bee. Still, my Bee pulls it fine.

Our 3/4 ton Suburban is a great tow vehicle (as well as family hauler, plywood and building materials, etc..). The added weight and length makes towing a 9000 lb package very stable and confident. The 6.0 has plenty of power, but the 8.1 would accellerate better and may get better mileage under tow.

Our daily mileage with no tow is about 11 to 12 mpg (if you are light on the throttle) ... I can squeak 13 on a steady highway run.

You are towing more than 9000lbs.. go to the scales... My 248's wet weight (full of fluids) is 8900.

I can only talk about what I was told and what I researched. The 2006 1500 Hemi Quad Cab Big Horn Edition with the towing package was rated as 1050lbs LESS towing capacity then the SLT. The only diference was the 20" rims. (same gear per towing package) The same is true today with the new 1500's and Durango's. Just something to know (because the dealers will not tell you this)

Yeah .... I figure that (thanks for sharing that info, too). My 9000lb quote was conservative .... I didn't want to brag ... hehehhee....

They quote 8570 lbs for the same year 248V. So .......... if you're weighing in at 9000+, I'm likely at something like 10,000. My rig is rated at 11,000 with the 6.0 and the 4.10 gears.

AND ......

I just finished a full tank of non-ethanol fuel, in the truck. With one 10 mile boat tow and one 30 mile boat tow, and the rest, commuting to work (100 mile round trip) .......got 365 miles on 31 gallons.
