I really like my trailer but, like ArchitectDave, I was coming from a horrible, horrible trailer built in the early 1970's. I like mine so much that I slide the boat off of it and into my dry storage shed every weekend so that I can pull just the trailer home and pull it around all week. I've even slept on it in my backyard a few times. The only trouble I have with it is getting the boat back on it when I return the next weekend. The wife is getting much better at cranking it back on with the winch, though.

Question -

For those of you who have hit and bent the "guides" why are you hitting them? Im probably jinxing myself  and will plow one over next time, but i can see them easily when i get lined up and even in a good wind I havent hit them yet....is it boat size? availible view from the wheel?

Just curious.

I use mine to climb in the boat. Which is what is breaking the welds. Four Winns says i'm hitting them. The boat is 19 foot, I could trailer the boat with a bed sheet and a broom stick.

I've hit mine a couple of times because the trailer has to be in pretty deep with this boat - to where the side guides are nearly submerged. We've had winds or currents push the boat over them. They should NOT bend just from stepping on them, and if mine did that I'd be pretty unhappy too.

I've found out that all boat launches are not created equal and I have to make ajustments when loading at each different launch ramp I encounter. I bent mine for the first time this weekend and learned a lesson.

Although, it doesn't pull too bad. I pulled it around for 30 minutes the other day to dry the cover. I love how our 4Runner pulls it.

I sent an email to FW suggesting that they take a look at this thread to see what real users are saying about their trailer and possible improvments. So far no response back other than the standard auto reply. We shall see.

Great idea! It would be wonderful if someone at FW would participate on this board.

I just got my trailer back after being rebuilt('99 258). We installed 4 new galvinized free backing brake clusters, SS brake lines, put them on the outside of the frame where they can be seen, replaced the guides with square tubing and braced them along with the step they fasten to, Imron paint, new stripes and FW logo, replaced the bunk carpet. Notice the steel fender backs replacing the carpeted plywood. The led lights were put on a couple of years back along with the HD jackstand. I did away with wheel stand which is worthless on a trailer this size, in favor of a foot pad.

That is REALLY nice. Can you give us a rough idea what a project like that costs?

I don't have a total on the labor yet, but the brake clusters, brake lines and paint, stripes and logo were about $650.
