Kind of hard to describe. Friend of mine has a wood shop and also builds big steel cookers- smokers BBQ's. He sprayed the wood trim that goes around the counters and V berth on the boat and I mentioned my trailer and what I wanted to get done and he tells me he can do it. So I tell him "have at it". He realy takes pride in his work and wants everything right and he likes to weld. I'm real happy with the outcome.

Actually he has restored some collector cars so he has all the equipment and experience to do this kind of project. He did'nt sandblast, just sanded primed and painted. Imron paint is a 2 part epoxy that is very hard and should hold up in this application.

That trailer looks awesome! Uh, maybe FW needs to hire this guy as their chief fabricator?

I love the carpet guide bunks. I'll have to post a pic of mine someday. One side looks like a pasta noodle. Its been bent several times and is now clearly weak.

nice indeed.

on the carpet subject, mine needs replacing. Is just ordinary marine carpet OK. The stuff at the boat shop seems a little stiff compared to the factory stuff...

I bought a remant at a carpet store. Outdoor type. I had to get 10 yards to get th 14 ft length I needed. Monel rust proof staples cost about $15 a 1000 used 2 boxs. I found SS but they were only 3/8. I used 1/2.

Scott,
I have rebunked my trailer mainly due to rusting bolts, the carpet used was the stripped carpet available from BAIS and works better than the original, if you need info fire away

In Oz, the traffic people do not allow this, so our brake lines on FW trailers come attached with thick cable ties to the axles (I think the dealer does this). Would be simple for you to do to your existing trailer, and best of all, only costs a couple of bucks...

Another tip I came across for the bunks was to spray them with silicon spray (when the boat is in the water!). Man, the boat just glides on and off then - like it is on rollers!

I've heard many people mention the silicone spray. Now the question for all of you is what kind of spray? Just simply silicone based lube? Or are we talking something else?

AstroGlide works well. So I'm told.

Question: What type of environmental impact does the silione-based lubricants on bunks have?

You know that SOME of it is coming off in the water. What is the difference between this practice and summerizing your boat with green antifreeze in it when you're at the boat ramp? I realize there may be more green stuff, but 20+ dips of silicone-based lubricant into the water can't be that much better for the lake.
