Parking on a hill anyone?

Anyone have any advice for *extra* protection when leaving a single axle trailer parked on a slope? my driveway has a slope and don't want it rolling away... the chocks should hold it, but I would like to lock the hubs from rotation if possible? it will help me sleep better knowing I went the extra mile to make sure it doesn't roll on down the side yard into a tree or worse yet the house...

I chock all four wheels,a nd I have the jack wheel facing sideways. Why not just chock both wheels?

This. My driveway is a pretty good slope also, I chock all four wheels and turn the jack sideways. It has not failed me yet :wink:

interesting on the e-brake... too bad I have surge disc brakes :-(

I think I need to get some heavy duty chocks... not the hard plastic red ones that I have... maybe at least aluminum?

Also, I wonder if I could use chain or a heavy duty bike lock through the wheel and to the trailer frame somehow for extra insurance? My grade is maybe 10% I would guess... maybe not quite that much

Or just buy the wheel lock that blue dragon has for sale in Buy/Sell.

I've seen a different version of that wheel lock where you remove 1 lug nut and bolt a similar device in... not sure how much I would trust em... they remind of "The Club"
I won't be doing the "extra measure" every time I use the boat, just for winter... I'm tempted to take the wheels off and leave on jackstands for the winter... :-/

maybe I'm just worrying too much... use the plastic chocks and back them up with concrete blocks?

An extreme idea would be to install an anchor point in your driveway and cable the trailer to it. You'd have to core a 6" hole in your driveway, then auger a 4-6" diameter hole into the ground a couple of feet down, then drop in a heavy anchor eye encased in concrete. If done right you could drive right over it and not feel it.

That's 3 belts and 3 sets of suspenders, but you'll sleep well. That much more theft deterrence, too.

Since we are going to the silly side with this. Put on some square tires. Just cut some plywood and drill the bolt pattern.

Just put some wheel chocks under it. We had our liberator in a really steep drive with two sets of chocks on a triple axle.
Had the front blocked up to about 4 feet to keep it drained while we worked on it. Rock solid!

I chalk all four tires and I also chain the two right tires together for extra security, the jack is also sideways and I have marked it with chalk and it has never moved.

The cheapest most effective insurance would be to insert a large anchor bolt in or along edge of driveway. One in center of lane at tongue would avoid the trip hazard from the cable or chain. I'm talking about the kindof ring the folds down when not in use. Really overkill but would ease concerns.

Euro spec trailers are required to have a parking brake, to me it's a good idea, if I had to park on a hill all the time I'd add it for sure. Mine has drum brakes so it would be easy.

Overkill, yes I think so. He has a 10% grade and chocks all wheels. Good heavens man, are you looking for things to worry about in your life or what?

I generally don't keep my boat in my driveway (neighborhood deed restrictions, and limited garage access), but when I do for short periods of time, I chuck wheels and keep trailer jack wheel turned as others have mentioned. Lastly, since I can only get on car in the garage when the boat is in the driveway, I usually park the other in front of the trailer. That way if the unthinkable happens it will be a short roll until it is halted by my vehicle.
