I'm sure this has been covered before..
Have a double axle trailer with surge brakes (Disc). About to repack. What grease should I be using.
Salt water, Short tows (15 miles each way). Is it marine grease or high temp that should be used??
Thanks :?:

It's important to use a grease specifically rated for disc brake use. It isn't important to use one marketed as a "marine" grease. I use Mobil 1 Synthetic Grease and have been happy with it for 2 years now.

Or Pennzoil Marine, the blue stuff. Works well, with the spindle lube axle I have all I have to do is remove the rubber plug and grease it at the beginning of each season.

I got tired of the manuals one, went to Harbor Freight and purchased a pneumatic one for about $20.

+1. The hub mfr. says not to use them because it's too easy to blow out the seals, but if it's used carefully it's a work saver, especially after a repack or bearing replacement.

Can I order this on line or get it locally? There is a boatersworld close by and a Outdoor World Bass pro shop. Anything in those places that resemble your devices?

A pneumatic gun? Home Depot... Sears... probably Lowe's... probably Harbor Freight (although I hate that place). To state the obvious, these are to be connected to an air compressor.

While we're on the subject of pneumatic boat related tools, I use a pneumatic bottle jack to do trailer maintenance. Greatest thing since sliced bread.

+1 on the bottle jack.

Never used one before repacking my bearings, really easy to use.

I've been using Amsoil synthetic water resistant grease. It's a lithium complex grease. I have the same set up as LouC above, with spindel lube axels. So far no complaints. :)
