When we bought our used 1997 Horizon 200 last Feb/Mar, I knew the previous owner didn't use the trailer much... then there was a positing here abut trailer tires. Both times I told myself, "gotta git new tires".. but noooo... it's a guy thing right? They was still working..

Well, we're trailering it back from the lake (about 35 miles) and I see the trailer start to hop... Guess what?

Dry rot... BOTH tires..

Fortunatley we did make it back to the house.

And yes, there was even a thread about SPARE tires, which we didn't have...

Ok, so now we have two new tires, AND a new spare tire (with new rim)... so we're safe...

I guess my beef here, besides me being a dummy and not listening to my own intuition AND for seeing it posted here AND not listening once again is.. why the hell do these trailor tires cost so much? I walked outta the place after plunking down $414 ($102 per tire, plus balancing, plue new rim ($57)...

Asked about a warrenty, mileage wise, and the guy just laughed and said dry rot would work in before any mileage warranty (and thus no mileage warranty)...

I know, I'm easy, right?

Nope, just a boat owner :D

Just keep in mind, a 10 year old boat that looks brand-new deserves a trailer that runs like brand-new.

Same thing just happened to me. I was planning on replacing my tires after our latest trip. I had 210 miles to travel home from Lake Ontario to Lake Orion, Mi., when in to 35 mins. of travel, boom, goes one tire. I had a spare and replaced it. Then, 45 mins. down the road, boom, there goes the other tire on the other side. This time no spare on a sunday afternoon in ontario, canada. And you would never guess who really came thru and helped out. BoatUS. They were grate in getting a tow truck and spare out to us in under an hour. I have since replace all four tires and planning on trailering to Saginaw Bay, MI. this weekend.
