I drive a 2007 Chevy Suburban...since the receiver unit is integrated into the bumper for this body style, I have to use a 5 1/4" drop to get the trailer level. I believe that it is preferrable (more safe) to have the trailer angle up to the ball, rather than down. The only reason that I don't use a more conventional ball mount of 2 1/2" drop is that I would have to extend the jack stand so darned far to mate the trailer and hitch. |

If anything, the hitch is higher on the Ford than the BMW. So to be clear when I am driving....if I feel like I am getting a lot of sway, then the hitch is probably too high, thus putting the weight onto the back of the trailor and off the tongue, right? As far as coming off the ball, I think I came out of a driveway leaving Carl's Jr. a little too quick that caused that one.

Just got back from a day on the lake...yeah, Sorry all you Monday Worker Bees....today is MY Saturday...anyways....flipped the hitch over, and she towed so well, I had to actually slow down several times. Thanks again for all the insight on this board. I can't begin to express how much I appreciate everything I learn around these parts. Funny thing...with the lower ball, I got worse gas mileage......oh well......very well worth it! |

Because it tows better you're probably driving faster hence lower mpg LOL.... You can take measurements from the frame to the ground to see how level it is hooked up to your truck. |

Fyi...not suggesting anything, but better to not assume anything. Make sure the ball and receiver are weight rated for your load. You want the large shank ball and I use the 10k receiver. |

TX makes a good point. There are a lot of trucks out there with factory tow packages where the truck is rated to tow 7-9K lbs., but came with a 5K class III hitch. I swapped out my factory 5K hitch for a 10K class IV for this reason. Hitches aren't terribly expensive in the scheme of things but I think it's a minority of people who think about their hitch capacity. |
