Hey Rob, I see Gm is putting a V8 in the Canyon early '08 and its going to boost towing capacity to 6000 or 6500 lbs. If your still looking.

Well then! I may still consider this as an option.
Where did you see this tasty bit of info?

They announced a while ago putting a V8 in the H3 which is the same platform as the Colorado/Canyon. There were rumors of it falling down to the pickups but now GMC has updated the Canyon website to include the V8 and they just say early ’08. Here is one blurb about it.

Chevrolet Colorado midsize pickup is going to receive a V8 next year - the same small block 5.3-liter 295-horsepower / 317 lb-ft motor that will power it's Shreveport stable mate, the 2008 Hummer H3 Alpha. Both trucks are assembled in the same Louisiana factory, along with the Colorado's midsize corporate twin, the GMC Canyon.

Nice. We'll wait and see what the pricing looks like. If it ends up pretty much the same price as the Silverado though, I'll most likely stick with the Silverado for more space.

Rob, if you can afford it, go with a 2500HD. they have awesome tow capacity.

Thanks for the suggestion.

The way I've been looking at it is this: 1500 has a rated tow capacity of 6000 LBS. and I'm towing ~3100LBS. Even with loding the truck up I should be well under that. Not to say a 2500 wouldn't be nice though... I think the 1500 should be more than enough for what I need. Mind you, down the road if I step up to a 230 or something like it, then we can talk about a 2500 under the Christmas tree.... 8)

Just a word of caution. With the 1500 you can get a smaller engine without losing much towing capacity. Once you step up to the 2500HD you're talking 6.0 minimum and 13 mpg at best empty.

I drive a 93 Chevy C1500 with 360k on it and it tows my boat fine (3000 lbs). My father uses a 2500HD, and you can't even tell it's there towing. That said, I can get 14 mpg on the highway towing mine and he gets 10.

Oops! Forgot about this thread! :D

I ended up getting a new Silverado 1500 a month ago! Love it.

Like the boat's not even there! And it matches the boat too... 8)

Nice looking truck! What kind of mileage are you seeing towing on the Highway?

Right now, Looking at 15-16 MPG or 18-19 l/100km (Depending on how you look at it...:)

Not too bad I think towing. About 19 MPG or 14.5 l/100km without the boat.

I'm guessing it will get better with a few more K's on the truck. Only at 6500 now. 8)
