So I'm thinking of a new truck in the near future. We're looking at the Chevy Silverado and the smaller Colorado/Canyon. My question to everyone is this: Has anyone owned one of the smaller trucks? And if so, towed what with it? How happy with the performance?

Thanks guys!

IMHO best bang for your buck would be a 4x4 import midsize pickup. a nice 4 door or extended cab tacoma or frontier. I go for longevity in vehicles and have not seen that in american made cars or trucks. That said theres nothing like full size ford or chevy for pulling power especially with a diesel. I dont have any experience with full size import trucks.

I have a ‘04 Colorado and have never towed anything with it. I think it’s only rated for 4000 lbs. I would say mine would be a little under powered but it only has 220hp and either last year or this year they upped it to 242hp. So unfortunately I can’t say how it tows. We use an Envoy with a 6 cylinder and that works well for towing our 200. I will say that I have 79k miles on my Colorado and never had to have in into a shop for anything.

Thanks guys. Think I'll stay with the new Silverado. Don't think the 4k towing capacity will be enough with me, the wife, gear and everything else in the boat.

Thanks again!

Sounds good. You can't go wrong with a full size and a V8.

Well... my F150 will be 10 years new in November. But I know what you mean. Next time around, I'll have to take a very hard look at Tundra.

Mike my 97 pathfinder with 270k miles +/- has never broken down. It never not started, its never died, never stalled, ever, its nutz but my 91 honda is the same way except for the starter and radiator. I do belts hoses brakes tires bearings struts bushings etc but no starter, no radiator, no diff no tranny all original. Its jsut crazy. My moms tahoe is a 97 with 88k miles last year she put 400 in sensors in it a trans for 2200 a radiator and an alternator. i love big trucks but man it s night and day.

I hear you. Mine's at 104K and hasn't had anything but a front brake job and one set of tires. My wife's '03 Honda Odyssey was totaled out a couple of weeks ago and we went back for another one without even looking.

Thanks for asking. We think she's ok, just badly bruised. Nothing was broken. The other party was one of our "undocumented workers," unlicensed, uninsured, and unACCOUNTABLE. He spun her around in the intersection and landed her back close to where she started when her light turned green (and the Odyssey weighs over 4K lbs.). It knocked the diamond out of her wedding ring, but fortunately one of the paramedics found it. She still has some pain in one knee but it's getting better each day.

He got out and ran on foot, but an American followed him, led police to him, and he was hauled off in handcuffs. Which means he was probably back at the bar by noon.

The damage is actually quite a bit worse than these photos indicate. The adjuster felt there was almost certainly engine and/or transmission damage, and the unirails are badly bent.

Its a real shame that stuff like that happens. Law enforcement is just not able to handle it. I hope you and your wife both recover easily from this setback and taht she feels better. With any luck they will get deported at the very least.

Thanks Dave, but unfortunately deportation would be the most, not the least, and will not even be considered. I'm sure he'll pay a fine and get back on someone's roof.

Wow, Mike that is a pretty scary looking collision. Much more than just a fender-bender. Hopefully she continues to be OK. Sometimes, people wake up 2 weeks after an accident with a hell of a stiff neck/back. Keep an eye on her.

Thanks, Paul. Yeah it was bad. However, it's been nearly 30 days now and no setbacks so far, thank God. Hopefully it'll stay that way.

Good to hear. Probably means she'll be fine. I'd tell you to get a lawyer if she WAS hurt, but I don't know any good ones. :D
