I just noticed that my new coupler is leaking fluid. Is that normal after a tow? I towed my boat from the marina to home about a 40 minute drive at 65mph.

Leaking isn't normal. Where is the leak coming from?

Probably a line or cover seal leaking.

What would typically leak inside the coupler? Can't tell where the leak is. It stopped dripping. It looks like all is wet in there.

If it makes you feel any better (misery loves company), mine just started leaking too. It's a 2007, so I'm not sure if a seal or o-ring is leaking, or if maybe the hose connecting to it through the tongue has a crack or something. It's impossible to get a good look at it, and I'm not a good enough mechanic to take it apart and fix it myself. Looks like a trip to the dealer is in my future.

Are these couplers custom made to fit the FW trailer? On a simple galvanized trailer you can either, get a repair kit and replace the master cylinder, or replace the whole actuator. I have a Tie Down model 66 that I installed about 10 years ago and its still working fine....If it leaked I can just replace the master cylinder for about 80 bucks instead of removing the whole thing....

I'm with Lou. I replaced the master cylinder on my FW trailer. It was the tie down LP70. Pretty easy job. If yours is like mine, the leak is from fluid getting past a seal around one of the rods coming out of the MC. I got my MC from trailerpartsdepot.com.
