Hi. I have a 2004 Four Winns tandem axle trailer for my 268 Vista. The axle needs replacing. It's at a trailer shop right now and they want $1,200 to replace it with a complete one with new discs. They told me they would have to go to the manufacture because they can't find one that fits. My trailer is a 6 lug with disc brake. I appreciate all you help in advance. Thank you. |

you might try championtrailers.com You would need length and load rating. I am sure it is a stock axle. Can you not use your brakes and/or hubs? |

According to two trailer places, the said the axle has to come from the manufacture. The brake caliper seized and the hub is shot. Thank you for you feedback. |

That sounds very high to me (but I haven't had to buy an axle). Hubs are cheap. |

Unless the spindle is damaged, or the axle tube is rusted to the point where its not safe there is no reason to replace the whole axle. I'd want to get a good look at the axle and specifically the spindles to verify what the shop is telling you. About 12 years ago I had a 3500 lb capacity galvanized axle fabbed up for me by Champion Trailers. The cost was about 130 or so and I added a complete drum brake kit for about 400. Make them show you why the axle has to be replaced. If the spindles look good, no damage to the areas where the bearing races, grease seal and the retaining nut fit, then just replace the hubs (disc rotors), and calipers if needed. That can cost a bit all by itself, depending on what you buy. You can get by with the non stainless brakes in freshwater but in salt water I'd use only stainless. |

Sounds steep to me too. It should be an easy swap to replace the axle. I bought a brand new aluminum trailer for my 258 2 years ago for $3600 so 1/3 the price for the axle seems outrageous to me. |
