What's the realistic weight of a 1998 258 with trailer? Let's say water tanks are dry and the boat has less than a quarter tank. The trailer is stock. Just purchased the boat but worried about short trips with my 17' Z71 silverado with air load helper bags in the rear.

Not sure about the weight but I think I'd want at least brakes on both axles and its good that you already have air bags in the rear coils of the tow vehicle. I'm always surprised when I see trailers for boats that size that have brakes only on one axle. I'd measure the tongue weight to make sure you're not over the specs for the hitch and also make sure that the brakes work.

Approximate weight of both is about 7800 lbs. Fine for short trips.

Four Winns Fast Facts shows the boat dry weight as 5040 with basic Volvo 5.7 engine package to 5270 with Volvo 7.4 Duoprop. The trailer is listed as 1690 lb. Add approx 125 lb for 1/4 tank of fuel, a little more for the inevitable "options and necessities" that get drug onto a boat and you might be a bit lighter than the Captain's figure, but not too much.

See page 64 in this link. http://www.fourwinns.com/uploads/2017/2 ... ts1998.pdf

Thanks for the replies. The truck is geared right and I don't plan on towing far or often so I was just curious. Thanks again!!
