My buddy is selling his b&w hitch. It is unused and still in the box so I'm thinking of buying it. Does anyone have personal experience on b&w hitches for boat towing? Is it really dependable? I'm a newbie when it comes to hauling a boat. Thanks for any inputs.

B&W is good stuff, but there’s more to it than that. How heavy is your total load (boat with full tanks, anchors & toys, trailer, spare tire, etc.)? If you haven’t weighed it you really should. Tongue weight? And what class hitch does he have, and does it fit your truck properly?

The total weight of my boat and trailer is around 7500 lbs and the hitch is a class III.

You might want to keep looking. From what I see, class 3 hitches are rated up to 6000lbs trailer weigbt and 600lbs tongue weight. I would not want to scrimp on the hitch.

You can get a new class IV (10K lbs) installed for $150. This isn’t a place to look for bargains.

You haven't said what your tow vehicle is rated to pull. I know a guy who bought a 225 Sundowner and then realized his vehicle was only rated to tow 3500 lbs. The boat and trailer weighed more than 6000 pounds.

I agree with previous posts - a hitch is no place to skimp.
