 Post subject: Trailer Brake Lights

Anyone know just how these are changed out? I took the tail lamp lenses off, but am having a rough go of getting the lamp assembly out. It's covered in a (presumably water tight) bubble. Does the bubble detach, or do I need an entire new assembly? I've tried prying the buble assembly off, but it won't come loose. I am afraid to break it off.

Any words of advice are appreciated.

Well, I gave it a little English and it popped out...but now I see THREE wires leading from the capsule. Two (black and red) are easily traceable and have lots of slack. In fact, I can get to where they were spliced/plugged. The third is a WHITE wire which has NO slack at all, and I can't tell where that comes from. Any ideas?

I also looked for a place where I could pop off the watertight bubble, but it must be hidden well. Have no clue if you can even do that.

What your describing is a Wesbar "ampule". It's a complete assembly and made watertight and glued together. You should be able to find one for about $8 - $10

You guys are Goooood.

That is EXACTLY it...only, for some reaswon, I cannot get the WHITE wire to free up to give me access. It does not appear to come from the same place as the other two. Very frustrating, but still working on it.

I may ahve to remove the entire light assembly, but the bolt turns when I move the nut, and there is no slot with which to hold it with a screwdriver (it is smooth). Go figure. I think this is done to frustrate we do-it-your-selfers.

Any other tips, please pass them along. I know someone else will benefit from this as well.

The head of the boalt just sits into a plastic groove of the black housing. If the nut is corroded it will spin as the plastic it's near strong enough to hold it.

I've gotten into the habit of spraying all the nuts and bolts (non-stainless) on my trailer with Boeshield T-9 just about monthly. All the connectors and grounding poins such as those at the tail lights get a generous coating of liquid electric tape to keep the water off them.
