1995 Fourwinns Trailer, tandem axle with drum brakes on the back axle. It is hauling a 1995 220 Horizon with a 5.8 EFI.

Went boating on the Mississippi Saturday and while coming home the trailer didn't seem right. Dug into the brakes Sunday and found that they needed adjusted and bled. The pads need replaced also. Couldn't find any in town Sunday so put it back together.

Looking for a good place to get replacement pads. Any suggestions? When I went into the parts store they looked at me like, we don't carry trailer brakes and have no way of cross referencing them. Are they the same a certain car or truck pad from some year.

I'm wanting to get everything up to par before winter, so next spring we can hook on and go!!

I don't think you will find a cross reference to a car or truck. You need to take the parts to an RV or utility trailer retailer and they will be able to source the replacements. I use http://www.morco.com but they are a Canadian distributor. Princess Auto also stocks alot of trailer repair parts. A quick Google search for "trailer brakes" revealed http://www.easternmarine.com and http://www.trailerpart.com. You could try http://www.randpcarriages.com also.

They do it all the time. The pads for my disk brakes are NAPA #TS-7192-M (1990 Chevy Cavalier), as per Four Winns.

Last time I did that, I just took everything into the trailer parts store, and they hooked me up with pre-made assy's including pads, springs and pistons. All I needed to do was bolt the assy into place. It was about $60 per side at Croft Trailer in KC. Surely other outfits have similar.

I agree you can cross reference the pads for a disk setup but drum brakes will be a different story. You never know though, I have never had any luck with parts guys being very cooperative. Even if there is a part that is compatible, most counter guys won't spend the time to check! I amazed that you found the cross reference to the cavalier did your parts guy find it or was it a tip off the web? BTW, I am glad to know this tidbit because my pads may need replacing when I overhaul the trailer in the spring.

Straight out of the FW literature. That's why I say, just call FW.

However - if I had drums, I'd probably do what Walt suggested. For the cost and potential headaches involved, just replace all the guts and be done with it.

Its most likely an attwood drum setup, there are 2 difference sizes. you need to know the drum size, again, most likely 10 inch across. then you can call any marina and get the stuff you need.

Disc brake info is all available from Tie Down Engineering (http://www.tiedown.com) as they are the OEM for and supplier of these to FW. As usual, 230 Mike is spot on regarding the pads for this Vented Rotor Disc Brakes, w/Aluminum Caliper setup . Tie Down states:

"Pads must be replaced when the friction material is 3/32” or less. Original Tie Down Engineering brake pads have a GalvX coated backing plate that aids in corrosion resistance. Replacement pads can also be purchased at most auto parts stores. Use NAPA #TS-7192-M or IBN # 289 and MXD289 (1990 Chevrolet Cavalier front brakes)."

Tie Down also lists a range of corrosion resistant drum brakes so maybe they are possibly the OEM for yours Shawn... worth checking out.

I second that thought for the NAPA auto parts store , my local guy's here in Rockford get me all kinds of parts lawnmower to yes OMC outdrive stuff.
Thay always have it the next day by noon.
