I have no idea how it popped out...I guess I did not hammer it on all the way.

Anyone had this happen before? What is the best solution to not having this happen again?

Tips etc??!

Yes ..... over packed or just loose. Either one will result in the thing coming off.

I have lost a few over the years. But that because we travel 350 miles one way to lake powell, and not on the best of roads.

I always carry a spair or at least another dust cap.

brings back memories... 1984 eastbound 1-94. i was following behind my not-so-new (newly purchased) 1976 renkin being towed by my bro. in law. anyhow...i see this barrel thing flying off the trailer wheel then bouncing off the shoulder! all i could think was what next?? the wheel?? :(

Yeah, ain't no thing. I've done it as well. Just buy a pair, and keep one spare in a zip-loc bag. They are cheap, but well worth it!

jack up the trailer and check the wheel bearing condition itself. Many times when the bearing is bad, it will pop off the dust cap or the bearing buddy.

Brand new bearings, races, and seal...I think the pin must of been blocking it from going in all the way...

Live and learn i guess...
