Hello,

I'm wondering what others use for a jack while trailiering. My trailer doesn't currently have a jack and I need to come up with something before a long trip.

I was thinking about building a small ramp that I could just throw in the back of the truck. If I hit a problem. I could roll the front or back wheels on it and change the tire.

Anyone already put something together? Care to share a pic?

Ever see one of these? I like the idea but it scares me to think how it would be to use one on the side of the road. I guess the idea is that you jam it under your axel then pull ahead a little so it digs in and lifts the wheel.
Anyone ever used one and can say it would work - it would beat dragging around a trolley jack in the back of the truck. They sell them at Overtons for $30 but are only rated for 2 ton. Good for a smaller boat I guess.

I think you are just supposed to use the jack from the tow vehicle?

I just use the jack from my tow vehicle. I also carry a small floor jack in the tool box in my bed to make it real easy if needed.

Not a good idea. Especially for single axle trailers. Also, What if the tire that needs replacing has to be off the road & into the grass? That thing would get mashed into the ground.

The tow vehicle jack is a good idea. Just make sure you carry a board of some sort to place it on in case non-paved surface changing.

I carry a 2 ton floor jack and a jack stand in my bed/tool box in my trackā€¦. Just in case. I put this floor jack right under the axle if I need to use it.

I keep a bottle-style hydraulic jack in a roadside emergency kit along with extra grease, spare hub and bearing kit. It's a little easier to get to than the tow vehicle jack and a little easier to put into place and jack up.

Small bottle jacks are inexpensive and easy to get under a trailer axle. I also carry some blocks of wood 4x4 and 2x4 and wheel chocks, and an old piece of carpet to kneel on.

I got one of these last year, but it'll only work if you have a dual axle trailer.

Looks nice. Where'd you pick it up at, and how much?

It's called Trailer-Aid their website is http://www.traileraid.com/traileraid/. I got mine at a local RV shop for around $40 - $45 bucks I think. If you can't find locally, just google and you'll find lots of places that sell them.

I have a nice 2 ton floor jack that is in a plastic case that I throw in the truck when towing the boat. Also take some misc lumber. Have never trusted the little bottle jacks.

Have you tried it out yet? I just tried it with my 225, and it doesn't get the tire off the ground....

Good point, ya know I haven't. They make another version that has a 1" thick rubber pad attached to the top, but 1" isn't much. I'll be trailering the boat 2 hour away from home over Memorial Day weekend. I'll make sure to try it out this week. I found a screw in one of my tires this last weekend, but it hadn't gone in all the way and was at such a low angle that when I backed it out no air came out.

I wonder if you could attach a 2"x6" to the bottom to give you enough additional lift? If I remember right there are 4 bolts attached to the bottom of the Trailer-Aid that you could back out and re-use the holes with some longer bolts.
