On my Sea Ray I used a "Cabela's" spare tire cover, and never had a problem with it. I bought one for this boat, but apparantly the tire is to far from the hull. Wind gets in behind it, and end up slowly taking the cover off. We haven't lost it yet, but now I don't even use it. It has the built in elastic cord in it, so I can't make it any tighter. What do you use as a spare tire cover, and do you have a problem with it coming off? |

I was going to go the route of a galvanize rim and use a tire cover. But I managed to find a similar chrome rim to the factory so no cover. I do use a good tire spray on all the areas exposed to the sun to help prevent cracking. I plan on never using it, if I have a problem or when the tires get down I will replace the set. |

I planned on using it to keep the tire out of the sun as my boat is stored outside. I have aluminum rims and aluminum spare from FW. |

Couldn't you just put the tire cover on, then wrap a bungee cord or two around the outside of it to hole it in place a little better? |

Hi! I had the same problem as you, and finally fixed it. My cover is from Overtons (I think) and there's an opening that's supposed to be placed at the bottom of the tire to let water out. My spare tire was attached to the starboard side of the trailer. The problem was when the cover is placed on the tire, this opening faces into the wind causing the cover to billow and come off. Solution was to mount the tire on the other (port) side. Now the opening faces away from the wind. Problem fixed. Rick |

Rick, I think you might have fixed my problem! The tire was mounted on the same side on my Sea Ray, but it was an angled mount. I will check it out in a bit.... |

How about a grommet kit? Put 2 or 4 grommets across from each other, and bungee cord them as mentioned above? Rick |

It comes as a kit.
