I was wondering who tows the biggest boat on this forum. I know some here who tow a 288. Who tows something bigger and what are you towing with?

Yeah that is pretty big...I guess though depends on what you are towing it with.

I recently purchased my Horizon 260 and was concerned about towing it.
My 2005 Nissan Titan is rated for 9500 lbs. but I still expected to struggle.
I towed it through teh moutains a few weeks ago on a 4 hour trip to western PA and it handled it fine.
I have the tow package and was watching the trans temp gauge. As long as I stay in 4 instead of D....I am OK.

There is a guy that was on the forum last summer that had a 338 that he towed out here in Eastern Washington (Moses Lake as I recall)

How about who tows the oldest boat here?

Here's an old Four Winns (Hull Identification Number 1). As you can see, it came with all the bells and whistles, including a parabiminisol. A campbrella with side curtains was optional. Unfortunately, it was slightly underpowered.

I put my 298 on an I-beam trailer and pull it around a little bit. We were contemplating dragging it from Holland up to Manistee or further north to save fuel and a day, then carry on by water to Mackinaw, but I think the boat trip up is most of the fun. I had a hinged mount made for my radome this winter to get under 13'6". That way I don't have to worry about Larry the Cable Guy. We used to pull our 278 all over the place. I've been towing them both with a 2005 Silverado 2500HD long box extended cab with a chipped Duramax and the Allison tranny. I installed "Roadmaster" active suspension springs (http://www.roadmasterok.com) on the rear to keep everything level. I own a hardwood plywood business and it's not unusual for me to put 20 sheets of 3/4" particle board or MDF in the back end at 100 lbs a sheet. The Roadmasters are excellent. They make the rear leaf springs hold their shape regardless of the load. No axle twist or hop, no sway, just level riding and no change in comfort when unloaded.

I by no means tow the largest boat. But I do tow tandem, 2-3 jet skis behind our vista. I also tow jet skis behind our 5th wheel camp trailer. Gotta take toys with you when you travel, ya know!

Image

We use a F350 turbo diesel, chipped, 4" exhaust, bilstien shocks, firestone air bags, aux trany oil cooler, gages to monitor turbo boost, trans and motor oil temps, exhaust gas temps.

Someday, hopefully the vista will grow up to be a 288 or 318.

Usually, drop jet skis off in parking lot while launching the wife in the boat, then park boat trailer then launch jet skis and kids! Remember this set up is to tow to lake powell which is 320 miles from home, not going to drive 2 tow vehicles. When we go to a lake closer to home it makes more sense to take two tow vehicles.
I have backed both trailers down the launch ramp before, it can be done.

Hi, I tow a 2000 328 vista with a loadmaster tri axle trailer. I towed my 328 quite a bit with no problems at all. My tow vehicle is a 2006 dodge 3500 single wheel. 4x4. I have a 5.9 cummins with a automatic and 410 gears, and a factory exhaust brake. This is a great tow vehicle. I just hauled a 328 400 miles from michigan to east liverpool ohio. If you have the right truck and a well built trailer you could tow these big boys,.also my loadmaster has electric brakes on all 3 axles, it sure makes a difference when you have to stop suddenly. Take care, Joe.

Joe,

Impressive! What does the boat and trailer come in at in terms of weight? Also what is an exhaust brake?

Post subject:  Re: Who tows the biggest boat here???

I weigh in at 25,890 total. 328 vista, loadmaster steel trailer made by the loadmaster in port clinton ohio.{not to be confused with the loadmaster alum. I beam trailers} 2006 dodge ram 3500 4x4 4 door short bed single rear wheel pickup truck. the boat had a 1/2 tank of gas in it and no water. this weight was when i first purchased it before we loaded it with our personal stuff. The exhaust brake works like a Jake brake on a semi, it uses the exhaust from the engine to slow the truck down, its really trick. take care joe.

I'm still around :D . Towing a V338 with a 96 dodge 2500 5spd w/ 5.9 cummins. Not a stock truck. It has a gear vendor splitter, cold air,pac brake exhaust brake, new high flow 4" exhaust, south bend 650hp clutch, added gauge kit for turbo boost and pyrometer and the most important its getting more fuel with a bump to the pump  .
