I was going through my 2005 Four Winns factory trailer for my 230 Horizon and noticed that the front actuator (The part of the tongue that moves in and out to actuate the trailer brakes), seemed loose.

The actuator rolls in and out on 2 rollers with grease fittings that are held in place by pins and snap rings and then some fancy cotter pins for extra safety on the right side of the trailer.

Upon close examination the snap ring on the front pin was loose and the pin was secured only by the cotter pin. If this had let go and both pins came loose the front of the trailer (actuator) would have separated from the rest of the trailer, pretty scary!!!!

I did a bit of research on the internet and found someone with a 2005 Tiedown trailer actuator with the exact same problem, and I also contacted Tiedown engineering and found out there is a technical bulletin on this. Tiedown sent me the new upgraded pins and I could only easily install the complete front assembly, but now the trailer should be safe.

Here is the link to the factory technical bulletin: http://www.tiedown.com/pdf/c835.pdf

Here is a link to the complete assembly diagram for the actuator: http://www.tiedown.com/pdf/c462.pdf

Here is the article I found about the same issue: http://www.arizonabass.info/forums/showthread.php?t=14

This is interesting. I have trouble with mine getting stuck in the postition where the brakes are locked. I have to use a screw driver to pry the hole open enough to get the lock out pin in so I can reverse.

Looks like I'd better check mine. I'm very surprised that there's no factory recall on this from tie down or FW. Did Tiedown at least provide the assemblies that replace the 48795 actuator pins at no charge?

They provided the 2 pins with 2 bushings each, and nut, and the rollers that slide over them. Shipped them free. I was able to easily replace the front one complete, but couldn't for the life of me figure an easy way to remove the rear assembly, so I left the old roller in place and just replace the pin which is the issue anyway.

Great information, and this post should probably be stickied. The bulletin, as well as the replacement parts, have been around since at least early '05; I'm surprised anyone still has a trailer with the old parts. My trailer, delivered 6/2/05, already had the replacements, from the factory.

I'm wondering if you got an '04 trailer that for some reason didn't get retrofitted at the factory.

My trailer is an 05 per the title, but it sounds like they may have cut in the replacement parts some time during the year when yours was made. I bet this effects many other trailers of different model boats.

Agree with Mike...you'd think this would be better known......

Mike --- you and I took delivery about the same time --- I think we picked ours up about 2 or 3 weeks later (after they finished moving my batteries per the research we did on "the starboard list" ;) ). I haven't had a chance to read the memo --- does it outline how to know if you already have the replacements?

Ernie

Interesting.

Mine looked different that that before, and after I installed the kit.
