here in australia most trailers have ford or gmh type hubs, with brakes to match. What are the four winns trailers ( ie chev etc) ?

the reason I ask is that the other day my brake rotor on the left decided to seperate from itself - it makes a hellova noise but nothing was damaged (after the 20km trip home). True to form though , the local dealer has them in stock, but the price seems somewhat astounding, as around A$216 a piece, and then a whopping A$187 for a set of brake pads ! I am hoping to try a trailer shop like titanbrakes.com.au, and it would help if i had a stud pattern to call the rotor, rather than trying to measure it (or whats left of it !)

thanks
scott

Wow, what year is your trailer? Dunked in salt water?

its a 2003/2004 model, and the trailer gets mostly dunked in salt water, but washed (almost) better than the boat!
the rest of the trailer is in great shape. Same

Hi Scott,

Mine are Ford pattern - I actually had one of mine off last weekend (crook seal) , and would think an XF falcon rotor may work... take what's left to your local brake guy - maybe DBA or one of the aftermarket rotor people have somthing suitable - same with the pads. If not, the brakes are made by Tiedown Engineering in the US http://www.tiedown.com/abrakeas.html - see if you can get them either from Tiedown of via somewhere like iboats etc. The pads are simply Chev Cavalier pads - real cheap in the US.

Maybe call up Fleet Marine in Melbourne to see if they have any second-hand rotors and pads... I know they had a couple of spare trailers at one stage.

thanks for that info.
also, after speaking with Don from titan brakes, i found that they stock the full range of US brake components that I need (Kodiak) and they are CONSIDERABLY cheaper - ie $90 compared to $220 for a rotor. HE confirmed thay are a ford pattern too !

oh, and that price is shipped to sydney from QLD !!!!

Glad you found some reasonable replacements. Faulty/Rusty brakes on a trailer are not something you want to overlook. Glad you only had a short distance to tow.

Thanks for the tip on Titan Brakes - have added them to my list of local sources.

yep, speak to Don at Titan Brakes.
Phone-: (07) 3286 1199
Mob-: 0433 599 455
don@titanbrakes.com.au
http://www.titanbrakes.com.au

no affiliation, just a satisfied customer, now with (genuine) new brakes and rotors for cheaper than a single rotor from the FW dealer....
:D
