I just bought an infrared thermometer to check wheel hub temps and tire sidewalls. What kinds of temps is anybody seeing on your trailer? I have a tandem axle and after a short trip back form the marina, they ranged form 101 to 111 tire sidewalls 106 to 112

Every post I read has me worrying about 1 more thing. Pretty soon I'll be afraid to leave my house without checking 7893 things. Please don't make me add sidewall temps to the list!

No kidding, get the checklist out. I only added that to my post because I have had in the back of my mind that my trailer tires are 7 years old, and not wanting to have a blowout, thought that sidewall temp may be a way to kind of stay on top of it. I just fixed that little concern though, I just replaced the tires. I was going to do it at the beginning of the season, but other priorities don't allow me too. Any way that's off my list of things to worry about.

Anybody have anything on trailer hub temps. We are going on a trip this week about 2.5 hours away, so I should be able to get a good feel for hub temps, just thought if any of you guys have been doing this awhile may be able to shorten my learning curve on it.

Mine are pretty consistent, at ~15-20F above ambient air temp. and the brake hubs ~10-15F warmer than the non-brake hubs. Here's an excerpt from my log.

10/6/05 - 65F, Sunny
Front hubs: 80F
Rear hubs: 98F

4/18/06 - 85F, Sunny
Front hubs: 105
Rear hubs: 120

So I'd say you're good to go.

Todd - dont worry. That Tahoe is equipped to tow your SL. You have NO miles on your trailer, so apart from making sure your tires are properly inflated, you are good to go. We tow every weekend. All I do is occassionally check pressure and hit the road. I agree proper service on hubs is critical, but we have brand new trailers and probably very little to worry about.

I hear ya....just finished my 2nd battery install. I have probably original carlisle tires on my trialer with some minimal sidewall cracking. It's only a single axel trailer too and no spare. I'll be SOL if I blow a tire. Road side assistance will have to save me. The list never seems to end and about the time you think you are where you are comfortable, it's boat upgrade time Rinse and repeat

As Mike noted, those temps are fine. Trailer on!

If you have brakes on just one axle, that axle will show higher hub temps and potentially higher tire temps (by a bit).
