No ideas, although do you have a 7 round connector? I have that and a four flat on my truck, and found it just as easy to buy a 7 round to 5 flat adapter, similar to this...

2004 Ford Expedition with the factory 4 pin flat connector. I installed a 5 pin adapter and tapped the blue wire (reverse lockout) on the adapter to the blue wire on the trucks wiring harness (it has the wire seperate and not connected from the factory). The problem is that I am not able to get a 12V signal on that blue wire when I put the truck in reverse. I checked, and there is a 20 amp fuse in place where needed and it is a good fuse. For some reason...I must be missing a way to turn this connection on, jumper, relay etc... Any ideas? |

Nope, mine isn't equipped with the HD towing package. Only has the 4 flat from the factory. |

Wish I could help you but I sold my Expy and can't recall how that reverse lock out wire connected. I had the same set up and can only say it SHOULD work. I do believe mine was tapped into the back up lights though because I remember it being a little bit more difficult than tapping into a pre-existing blue wire. Sorry, I can't be of more help. |

Is the blue wire on the truck labeled for reverse light? Seems like it should work as set up, but if you're not getting any juice to it in reverse could it be for a different purpose? I suppose you could always tap into one of the wires leading to yourreverse lights on your truck... |

Sounds like the problem, no? You need the reverse circuit for your actuator lockout - sounds like the wire you are looking at is for additional trailer brakes. |

I concur on that....I think that would be the wire that you would hook the electric brake actuator up in the cab to, and run it to the electric brakes. As been stated why not just tap into the reverse light circuit at one of the lights? |

Hmm... Thoughts: 1) If you have a wiring diagram for your truck, you might be able to trace that line back to see where it goes. Or take it into the dealer/auto electric shop to have them figure it out. 2) Are there any other loose wires along with the blue? 3) Splice into the reverse circuit either with a vampire connector, or there is probably a T-adapter made for your truck which would allow you to take a cleaner approach and then just use the reverse wire to your trailer connector or run a new full flat 5 or round 7. Hi, I thought all Ford trucks come with the flat and round 7 pin. This is the first time I've heard of only a 4 flat. Are you sure it's a factory hitch. I bought a 7 round pin that converts into 5 flat and it works great. I've owned several Ford trucks and my wife works for Ford, We've always asked for the factory hitch and both plug ins where there. |

The round 7 pin plug is part of the "towing package" which includes a slightly larger tranny cooler. Those are the only differences as far as I recall. But if you have the 7 pin plug then you have that option. Otherwise, the standard plug is the flat 4 pin and the same hitch. |

Cincy's right, only "towing package" equipped Fords come with the 7-round. I agree that the blue wire in this case is probably for electric brakes rather than for reverse lockout to a surge setup. Kind of confusing the way they do that. |

Hi, I have seen this before, The problem should be inside your fuse Box under the hood. For some reason ford did not put in I believe "two" relays to send power to the reverse lights wiring in the trailer harness assembly. You will need to run by the dealer and tell them this wire is not working, And ask them if there is a relay you need to buy and install, The last few guys I sent to the ford dealer said the service writer new about this and he was nice enough and showed them where to install the relays and the truck did not need to go back into the service bay for the service tech to look at it.  So it's worth getting a hold of your ford dealer to see what they say about this. Good luck with it. |

I too have seen something similar, but it was on a Durango, it needed 2 or 3 relays that did not come with the vehicle off the lot. It just the label on the wire seems to defy this is a reverse wire when its labeled brakes. |
