So I started with what should have been a simple job of repacking the bearings on my trailer this weekend and lets just say it didn't go so well. Found axle nut retainers missing bearings toast and brakes fell apart as soon as I pulled the drum off. Obvious previous owner never touched them. Anyway I ordered parts to correct all this and went to move on to the front wheel and can't seem to get the trailer in the air high enough to get that wheel off the ground? Never owned a tandem axle until now. There something I am missing? Had my 3-ton jack fully extended and that tire was still on the ground. Maybe I should just take it to work and get out a 15,000 lb forklift and lift the whole damn works in the air!! |

is this a torsion axle or a spring axle...if it's a spring axle I'd put the jack under the axle as close to the spring mount as you can and lift it from there...if it's a spring axle the problem is that the equalizer is 'equalizing' the load and letting the tire stay on the ground.... |

Ntt totally sure the difference, but It has individual leaf springs on each axle. |

Place your jack right under spring shackle u bolts. |

Put a piece of wood between the jack and the u bolts, they won't bend. |

I'd just put the jack under the axle, right next to the shackle plate. |

What would you do on the side of the road? I don't think the axle would be bent as long as the jack point was right up against the plate, but the round axle would be a little concerning. |

The axle tubes are tubular and curved which is kinda different. It is an Eagle trailer. |

If you jack on the axle as close to the wheel as you can you don't really have to worry about bending the axle, you will not be lifting that much weight, just enough to compress the spring and raise the wheel off the ground and not be lifting the weight of the entire boat. |

OK wanted to get some input before I wrecked something. Going to try again next weekend after all my new brake parts get here. Going to replace bearings in all 4 wheels after what I found on the first. Bearings toast and spindle even a little nicked up, but caught that just in time. |
