I was looking at the grease cap on my trailer and was trying to figure out how to add grease to the bearings. It's a new 2010 trailer and when i took the cap off the rims to see inside the grease cap it looks like a rubber cap and not a regular metal cap like on most trailers that i've had. I'm not familiar with this new cap and was seeing if anyone here knows how to add grease to it. i'll try to get a picture of it if no one knows what i'm talking about.

When i push on the cap it feels soft rubbery and is blue. Not sure if the blue is just the grease inside but the whole cap is blue. It's a single axle with surge brakes.

thanks in advance

A picture would help but I bet you have oil bath hubs. Mine does. The soft rubber cap pops out and you fill with oil if needed. I was confused when I looked at mine the first time too because in 2008 not all trailers had oil bath hubs.

thanks i think it is a oil bath hub. Is this suppose to be low maintaince compared to your standard grease hubs or the same? how often should i change the oil in the hub?

Get yourself some "clear" oil bath hubs so you can see the oil on the fly without having to break into anything. Go to the Tie Down Engineering website for a complete summary of oil bath hub maintenance. It will tell you most of everything you'll need to know.
